Ethiopian Opals
The name 'Opal' is thought to have been adapted from the Sanskrit word 'upala', which translates as 'precious stone'.
Containing every colour on the visible spectrum, Opals are one of the most incredible stones the earth has to offer. Though the appearance of opals can vary depending on where they were formed, most of the many varieties exhibit this fiery 'play of colour'. This characteristic comes from the presence of hydrated silica. As light travels through an opal, it bends, breaking up into the colours of the rainbow.
